    Description

    Epson Expression 836 XL tabloid-sized
    (12" x 17")
flatbed SCSI scanner, 36-bit color, 800dpi optical resolution/6400dpi maximum, with removable lid, both cables (SCSI and power), and the drivers disc, in the original box.  Actually I have two SCSI cables in the box, I don't remember why.  You will have to have a computer with a SCSI card; those cards are really cheap if you don't have one.  I bought this magnificent scanner factory refurbished directly from Epson (see sticker on the box)
and used it for the ebay listings (no one else has touched it) until I replaced it with the Epson 11000XL, and then a 12000XL.  There are some very light scratches on the glass, but it works well and the glass can be replaced by Epson for much less than the 99.00 cost of the new model if you want to do that.  After a while these develop a very faint thin vertical line in the scans which I thought indicated some kind of serious problem, until I took it in to the local Epson repair place and learned that if a piece of dust gets inside it in the wrong place, that causes the line, so the Epson people cleaned it out, total bill about a hundred bucks, nothing.  I've had that done on this one and the 11000XL.  I stowed this one away as a backup, and then forgot about it until cleaning out the storage closet last week.  I plugged it in, the red 'error' light came on and then I remembered that the scanner has a locking mechanism that keeps the innards in place if you move it, and it was locked; if you turn it on without unlocking it, you get the red light.  Turned it off.  Unlocked it.  Turned it on.  All green, all good.  It is, like the Golem of Prague, ready to go back to work anytime you need it, and presumably also like the Golem, or an Eddie Hazel guitar solo, it is heavy as Hell, so be careful moving it.  Epson still has the docs online if you need them.
