For your consideration is a lovely hundred year old Yemenite Jewish Badihi scroll shaped pendant. Gorgeous geometric patterns, granulation, and linear patterns. Silver filigree bobbles dangle at base of pendant. Handmade in the early part of the 20th century. The pendant has a stamped hallmark with the name of maker: Yihyah Badihi. In very good condition.
The top Jewish silversmiths in Yemen in the early 20th century were the Badihi and Bowsani families. Using primitive tools and protecting their techniques, both families of silversmiths produced some of the finest examples of indigenous Yemenite jewelry. By the late 1940s, the once thriving Yemenite Jewish community came to a sudden end through mass immigration - and in the process, ending a thousand year old cherished tradition.
Rare museum quality piece.
