Manipur Police Sub-Inspector shot dead by Constable, accused cop arrested

A Constable was arrested for allegedly shooting dead a Sub-Inspector of Manipur Police in the state’s riot-hit Jiribam district on Saturday.
In a preliminary investigation report, it has been revealed that Constable Bikramjit Singh allegedly shot and killed Sub-Inspector Shah Jahan. The incident reportedly took place around 11 am when Singh used his service rifle to fire at Shah Jahan.
However, the exact circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, with authorities investigating the motives behind the act.
Sub-Inspector Mohammed Shah Jahan hailed from Yairipok Tulihal in Imphal East district and was posted at Jiribam police station. The accused police constable, Akoijam Bikramjit Singh, is from Naharup Pangong Makhong, also in Imphal East district.
Manipur Police officials were stationed in Mongbung village to maintain order and ensure the safety of residents amid escalating tension in Jiribam district.
According to police, senior officials from Jiribam arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.
The Mongbhung village, where the incident took place, is currently under heightened security due to the ongoing communal conflict in the state.
A case of murder has been registered against the accused Constable and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
